Do you need a permit to remove that tree? Usually no. Sometimes very yes.
In most residential situations in Palmdale and Lancaster, tree removal does not require a city permit — typical landscape trees like Chinese elm, ash, pine, mulberry, and eucalyptus on private property can usually come down without a city process. But the exceptions are important enough that guessing can create real problems. The safest approach is always evaluation before action.

The statewide one
Joshua trees are protected everywhere in California.
As a general rule, Joshua trees are protected statewide — under California's Western Joshua Tree Conservation Act they cannot be removed without a permit, regardless of where you live in the Antelope Valley. If a Joshua tree is the problem, the answer is a permit conversation, not a quiet Saturday removal. We'll tell you exactly what the lawful path looks like — free.
